Guam’s Basketball Confederation has joined Basketball Australia in transforming its sporting venue into a FIBA Connected Stadium. FIBA Connected Stadiums provide automated video production for live streaming and is currently used by more than 50 leagues across the globe.

The FIBA Connected Stadium is a joint initiative between FIBA and Synergy Sports. It’s designed to support National Federations and leagues by providing access to innovative computer vision-driven cameras and software to help live stream games, enhance the fan experience with graphic overlays and commentary, attract new audiences, and maximize the value of rights and content.

The project was established as part of an ongoing partnership and commitment from Synergy to support the FIBA Foundation’s work around the world addressing the role of basketball in society, preserving and promoting basketball’s values and its cultural heritage.

Synergy Sports has worked in collaboration with the Guam Basketball Confederation (GBC) to cover both the men’s and women’s basketball games during the FIBA Micronesian Cup 2022, as well as providing the opportunity for future league games to be streamed.

Basketball is among Guam’s most popular sports, with the national men’s and women’s teams both reigning 2018 Micronesian Games Champions with the men’s team winning the 2019 Pacific Games and falling agonisingly short at the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in 2021. Guam is also set to host the FIBA Under 15 Oceania Championships in November 2022.

FIBA Oceania President, Burton Shipley, said: “The initiative by Synergy Sports and FIBA, to reach more fans online through automated cameras and production will help continue to grow interest in our game. Guam Basketball should be encouraged for taking this step. I am sure that the late Tony Thompson would be proud to see his Federation leading the way.” Tony Thompson passed away in 2019 after leading the Guam Basketball Confederation as President for four years from 2014 to 2018.

Managing Director at Synergy Sports, Mark Silver, said, “We are very excited to bring the FIBA Connected Stadium to Guam through our partnership with FIBA. Guam is one of the most remote places on the planet, and now through the FIBA Connected Stadium, fans on the island and around the world can watch all the action from not only the FIBA Micronesian Cup but for all Guam Basketball games in the future.”

GBC President, EJ Calvo, expressed his delight with the partnership, saying that, “This partnership compliments our strategic vision in Guam to elevate the game, provide more opportunities for our players, coaches and staff, and inspire our community. This streaming system will provide opportunity for great promotional activations as well as streaming our local basketball talent across the world.
